In 2014, student Fabiola Medina and Mrs. Lucy Serrano Gastón realized that there were students with food insecurity problems at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (UPRM). As a result, Come Colegial was founded with the motto “Because a brain cannot be fed on an empty stomach.” Ten years later, Come Colegial is fully established on our campus and in 2018, thanks to the President of the UPR, they established chapters on all campuses of the UPR System. In the organization, purchases of non-perishable foods, breakfasts, snacks, hot lunches and dinners are delivered thanks to the solidarity of the university community, public and private organizations and the general public.
